In his speech, Alexey Kaplun told about the prospects of using CCUS technologies of Russian companies within the country and abroad. Alexey emphasized that Russian vertically integrated oil companies have extensive experience in injecting both CO2 and other, more aggressive substances into wells, and domestic geological exploration is capable of finding suitable deposits not only in Russia but also abroad. At the same time, there is a direct interest of foreign partners in the implementation of such projects, which is confirmed by the H2CE company signing an agreement with foreign partners on the development of a project for the collection, preparation and liquefaction of CO2 in the Republic of Korea, its further transportation and disposal in the Russian Federation.

The limiting factor in this case is the excessive regulatory requirements for CO2 disposal projects in the Russian Federation, which leads to an increase in the time for their implementation and makes such projects uncompetitive in comparison with other countries. Alexey noted that the CO2 market has high potential, and therefore it is necessary to develop a country strategy in terms of CO2 utilization services on the territory of the Russian Federation, among other things, fixing government support measures aimed at simplifying regulatory procedures and accelerating project implementation.
