AM Green Ammonia Reaches Final Investment Decision for Its First Million Tons of Renewable Ammonia Production
Industry newsAM Green Ammonia aims to achieve a total annual production capacity of 5 million tons at Kakinada. The company has secured offtake agreements for 50% of phase one production with Yara, and also with Keppel and Uniper, with most of the output destined for European markets.
AM Green has also secured the necessary electricity supply for operations, which includes 1,300 MW of round-the-clock carbon-free power, enabled by a 4,500 MW solar and wind hybrid capacity, combined with 950 MW of pumped storage plant (PSP) capacity. A 25-year fixed-price power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC, covering half of this power supply, is already in place, while the remaining capacity is expected to come from Gentari.
Electrolysers for the project will be supplied by John Cockerill, which is setting up a gigawatt-scale factory in Kakinada. Through its parent company Greenko, AM Green has already secured subsidies for the electrolyser production in Kakinada. The company anticipates achieving up to 90% utilization of John Cockerill's alkaline electrolysers by leveraging extensive pumped hydro resources, making this project "one of the most innovative and cost-efficient green ammonia initiatives worldwide."
