Canadian developer secures $175m investment to help build green ammonia project in Nova Scotia
Industry newsLocated in Nova Scotia in eastern Canada, the Point Tupper facility is expected to begin construction this year. Initial production is scheduled for 2028, with the first phase targeting 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.
The new investment, provided by Nuveen Energy Infrastructure Credit, will help Everwind move forward with the ammonia project as well as its 650 MW-plus wind power portfolio, which will supply renewable electricity to the site’s electrolyzers and ammonia synthesis units.
Wind projects included in the first phase are the Bear Lake (88 MW), Windy Ridge (376 MW), Kmtnuk (128 MW), and Upper Afton (176 MW) wind farms, all of which will be connected to the regional grid.
In the second phase, three additional wind farms with a combined capacity of up to 2.5 GW are planned. These will be linked directly to the Point Tupper facility through the Strait Crossing Transmission Line Project, a new overhead power line that will span the Strait of Canso, connecting mainland Nova Scotia with the province’s eastern islands.
Everwind has already obtained environmental approvals for most of the phase-one projects, except Upper Afton, as well as for one of the second-phase developments, and is currently negotiating power purchase agreements for projects in both phases.
