China’s First Operational Hydrogen-powered Construction Machinery Fleet

Recently, a fleet of hydrogen-powered heavy machinery—including two excavators, two wheel loaders, and four wide-body mining trucks—was officially commissioned at the Jinshan Mining Area in Daye, Hubei Province. This milestone represents the first large-scale use of hydrogen-fueled heavy equipment in domestic mining operations.

At the center of this deployment are the TZ350EH hydrogen excavator and the TZ958EH hydrogen loader, both developed by Taiyuan Heavy Industry. Operating alongside hydrogen-powered mining trucks, these machines support a fully integrated, low-emission mining workflow—from excavation and loading to transportation. During operation, they produce only water as a byproduct, helping to significantly improve environmental conditions in conventional mining settings.
