MUSCAT: China’s industrial group Shuangliang Group (SLG) has delivered a major batch of hydrogen electrolyzers for Oman’s first green hydrogen project, marking another key milestone in the development of the facility currently under construction at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD).

The project is being implemented by Green Hydrogen and Chemicals Company (GHC), a subsidiary of India’s ACME Group. The initial phase is designed to produce 100,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, with plans to expand capacity to 900,000 tonnes per year in later stages.

According to Shuangliang, 16 advanced electrolyzer units powered by renewable electricity have now been shipped for the project. Electrolyzers are essential for green hydrogen production, as they use electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Additional electrolyzer equipment for the facility is being supplied by Chinese manufacturer Sungrow Hydrogen, which previously secured a contract with ACME to deliver multiple 1,000 Nm³/h alkaline hydrogen production systems and flexible green hydrogen solutions.

The entire output of the project’s first phase — 100,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia — has already been allocated to the European market through a long-term offtake agreement with Norwegian fertilizer company Yara International. The shipments, expected to begin in early 2027, could become Oman’s first exports of RFNBO-compliant green ammonia to Europe. RFNBO (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin) refers to fuels produced using renewable electricity rather than biomass, in accordance with European Union regulations.
