CIMC-Hexagon Achieves Key Progress in Domestic High-Pressure Hydrogen Storage and Delivery
Industry newsAdvanced Technology for High-Performance Hydrogen Storage and Transport
The 20-foot Type 4 hydrogen MEGC integrates CIMC-Hexagon’s global technological expertise with localized manufacturing capabilities. It is equipped with Type 4 composite cylinders, delivering high storage density, reduced weight, modular scalability, and enhanced safety performance. Designed for an operating pressure of 38 MPa, the standard 40-foot configuration can store more than one tonne of hydrogen.
The MEGC complies with international standards such as ADR 6.8 and TPED (2010/35/EU) and meets global transportation regulations. It is suitable for road, rail, and inland waterway transport, offering an efficient and cost-effective solution for hydrogen logistics. Compared with conventional alternatives, the system provides substantial weight savings, higher payload capacity, and full intermodal compatibility, significantly reducing total ownership costs and the cost per kilogram of transported hydrogen. Its modular design supports configurations ranging from 10 to 45 feet, enabling customized solutions and optimized lifecycle economics, particularly for medium- and long-distance, high-volume hydrogen transport.
CIMC-Hexagon leverages the complementary strengths of its parent companies: Hexagon Purus, with over 60 years of expertise in high-pressure hydrogen storage and composite materials and more than 700 MEGC systems deployed worldwide, and CIMC ENRIC, with deep experience across the hydrogen equipment value chain and decades of energy equipment manufacturing. This combination enables CIMC-Hexagon to manage the full process—from core components to system integration—ensuring high performance, reliability, and global competitiveness.
Dual-Market Strategy Accelerating Commercial Deployment
CIMC-Hexagon is pursuing a dual-market approach, prioritizing expansion into Asian markets before scaling domestically. In the initial phase, the company will build on CIMC ENRIC’s established presence in Southeast Asia to grow its footprint across the region, leveraging certified and regulation-compliant products to capture new opportunities. At the same time, CIMC-Hexagon is accelerating R&D and certification of MEGC products across multiple pressure levels to broaden its offering.
Within China, CIMC-Hexagon actively contributes to the development of hydrogen storage and transportation standards and promotes the adoption of MEGC solutions aligned with national hydrogen infrastructure requirements, supporting the country’s “dual-carbon” goals. Looking ahead, the company plans to further integrate its parent companies’ technologies, sales networks, and manufacturing capabilities to enhance cost efficiency and delivery performance. By offering region-specific solutions and gradually establishing a comprehensive sales and service network, CIMC-Hexagon aims to become a key supplier of hydrogen storage and transport equipment.
CIMC-Hexagon remains focused on technology-driven innovation, deeper integration of group resources, and the localization of hydrogen storage and delivery solutions. Through these efforts, the company seeks to provide critical equipment for the large-scale development of the hydrogen industry while supporting a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system.
