The European Commission has launched a four-week consultation to gather feedback on its draft delegated act, which outlines the methodology for assessing emission reductions from low-carbon hydrogen and fuels. This act is part of secondary legislation required under the updated EU hydrogen and gas market regulations that came into effect earlier this year. The draft complements existing rules for renewable hydrogen and renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs) and follows a similar life cycle assessment methodology to evaluate the total greenhouse gas emissions of these fuels.
Feedback from this consultation will help shape the final version of the delegated act. Once finalized, the text will be sent to the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers for review over a two-month period. If there are no objections, the act will be published in the Official Journal and become law.
