EDF power solutions inaugurates hydrogen pilot plant at the Norte Fluminense Thermoelectric Plant
Industry newsUsing energy from photovoltaic panels, the plant will produce 18 m³ of hydrogen per day, with a purity level of 99.999%. The hydrogen will be used in the industrial processes of the TPP Norte Fluminense, particularly in cooling the generators. In addition to ensuring greater operational efficiency, the initiative will reduce operational costs at the plant, and in the future, it will be possible to commercialize the excess hydrogen.
The project features relevant technological characteristics, such as the tracking of hydrogen production via blockchain and a multi-source energy management system patented by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). This certification formalizes the unique nature of the plant and ensures that EDF power solutions has exclusive rights to the economic exploitation of the invention in the national territory for up to 20 years, in addition to enhancing attractiveness to investors and partners.
The operation of the hydrogen pilot plant reinforces EDF Group’s ambition to lead the global energy transition and expand the offering of renewable and innovative low-carbon solutions, in line with international goals. Furthermore, the project helps enhance the robustness of future hydrogen projects and diversifies EDF power solutions’ asset portfolio in Brazil.
