Oman, the Netherlands, and key industry stakeholders have entered into a Joint Study Agreement aimed at investigating the viability of establishing a liquid hydrogen supply chain. This agreement, formalized during COP28 in Dubai, delineates the creation of a green hydrogen corridor connecting Oman and the Netherlands. The envisioned corridor is designed to transport liquid hydrogen, generated in Oman, to the Port of Amsterdam. Subsequently, the hydrogen will undergo regasification at the port and be distributed to European markets.

The collaborative effort involves prominent entities, including the Government of Oman, Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), Port of Amsterdam, Zenith Energy Terminals, and GasLog. Various studies will be conducted as part of the agreement, encompassing a feasibility study for a liquid hydrogen liquefaction, storage, and export facility in Oman, as well as an examination of the logistics involved in transporting liquid hydrogen to Europe. The partners express optimism that the agreement will pave the way for the establishment of the world's inaugural commercial-scale liquid hydrogen supply chain.

Notably, this agreement signifies a substantial advancement for Oman and the Netherlands, both of which have committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Oman, with its abundant renewable energy resources, existing port and industrial infrastructure, and strategic proximity to key markets, is well-positioned for hydrogen production. Meanwhile, the Netherlands, a significant energy importer, seeks to diversify its energy sources away from fossil fuels.
