H2 Invest Presents UN Study on Liquid Hydrogen and International Hydrogen Logistics
Industry newsFor Russia’s hydrogen industry, this represents an important achievement: an analytical study prepared by a Russian company has entered the international expert agenda, focusing on hydrogen transportation scenarios, particularly liquid hydrogen technologies and distributed logistics systems.
From a Dissenting Opinion to an International Study
H2 Invest has been participating in UNECE activities as an expert on hydrogen technologies for more than two years. During this period, the company has consistently emphasized the need for a technology-neutral approach to the development of international hydrogen infrastructure and for consideration of multiple logistics scenarios within the emerging global hydrogen market.
In 2025, the Russian side formally submitted a dissenting opinion during discussions of UNECE policy documents and initiated the preparation of its own study on the diversification of hydrogen logistics.
The main objective of the research was to demonstrate that the future of the global hydrogen economy should not depend on a single infrastructure model and that the sector’s development requires a balance between economic efficiency, energy security, and supply-chain resilience.
Key Areas of the Study
• Analysis of global hydrogen transportation scenarios;
• Assessment of the advantages and limitations of different logistics models;
• Comparative analysis of pipeline and cryogenic infrastructure;
• Economic evaluation of liquid hydrogen supply chains;
• Assessment of transportation solutions based on the Cryosafe 42 technology;
• Analysis of the impact of different logistics models on supply-chain resilience and energy security.
Russian Engineering and Analytical Expertise
A distinctive feature of the project is that it was carried out by a Russian team, combining engineering calculations, logistics scenario modeling, and analysis of international energy policy developments. In effect, the study contributes to the formation of an independent Russian expertise base in the field of global hydrogen infrastructure.
This is particularly significant for the domestic industry at a time when international standards, methodologies, and future market rules are already being shaped.
