Industry newsOn June 1, Hyundai Motor Group celebrated the inauguration of "HTWO Guangzhou" in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China. This marks Hyundai's very first overseas hydrogen fuel cell system production facility. HTWO Guangzhou occupies a 200,000 square meter area and includes various structures like a stack factory, a research building, an office building, and an innovation center. The total investment in this plant amounts to 8 billion Rmb ($1.1 billion), and it has the capacity to manufacture 6,500 hydrogen fuel cell systems annually.
Hyundai Motor Group is strategically expanding its presence in the Chinese hydrogen market, anticipating robust growth driven by government initiatives. The "Hydrogen Energy Development Medium and Long-term Plan (2021-2035)" unveiled last year aims to increase the number of hydrogen-powered electric vehicles to 50,000 and the annual production of green hydrogen to 100,000-200,000 tons by 2025. Additionally, HTWO Guangzhou has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City to provide 1,500 hydrogen electric commercial vehicles to state-owned enterprises under these authorities by 2024.
