Hyundai's hydrogen truck, the XCIENT, has set a new record by driving over 10 million kilometers in Switzerland. This achievement took only three years and eight months, starting from October 2020. This milestone shows the long-term reliability of Hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The XCIENT trucks help reduce CO2 emissions, cutting down as much carbon as 700,000 pine trees can absorb in a year. In comparison, regular diesel trucks would emit about 6,200 tons of CO2 over the same distance.

There are 48 Hyundai XCIENT trucks in Switzerland. Each truck has two 90-kilowatt fuel cells, giving a total power of 180 kW. They also have a 350-kW electric motor, allowing them to drive more than 400 kilometers on a single charge. These trucks use only green hydrogen, meaning no carbon emissions are produced during hydrogen production or from the trucks themselves. This contributes to a green hydrogen value chain in Europe.

This achievement allows Hyundai to gather data on mileage, hydrogen use, and fuel cell performance, helping them improve their hydrogen technology further. Hyundai is also working on building a hydrogen ecosystem, which includes production, infrastructure, and usage.

The XCIENT trucks are now used in 10 countries, including Korea, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Israel, UAE, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, and the US.
