Kazakhstan has approved a Concept for the development of hydrogen energy through 2030
Industry newsThe concept focuses on critical areas such as achieving the national goal of carbon neutrality and meeting international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by advancing hydrogen technologies and attracting investment for pilot projects. These projects aim to introduce cutting-edge technologies and create new opportunities for the country’s energy sector, according to a press release from the Energy Ministry on Oct. 11.
Implementing the concept is expected to strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in the global energy landscape and make significant strides toward carbon neutrality. Hydrogen energy development is a key component of Kazakhstan’s transition to a green economy and sustainable development.
The concept sets specific goals, including producing 10,000 tons of hydrogen by 2027, 18,000 tons annually by 2029, and 25,000 tons by 2030, with at least 50% being green hydrogen. It also aims to build hydrogen storage facilities with a combined capacity of 100,000 cubic meters and establish a network of hydrogen filling stations by 2030.
