L&T Energy GreenTech partners with Japan’s ITOCHU in green ammonia deal
Industry newsThis deal builds on the Joint Development Agreement (JDA) signed by the two companies in July 2025 and represents a key step forward in their collaboration—moving from joint project development to securing committed long-term offtake. It further strengthens their partnership and supports their joint ambition to create a globally competitive green ammonia value chain.
ITOCHU plans to use the green ammonia sourced from Kandla to expand its marine bunkering operations, in line with its strategy to develop a worldwide green ammonia supply network across major shipping routes. Singapore, as one of the leading global bunkering hubs, is expected to play a central role in this effort. The initiative contributes to the decarbonisation of maritime transport and promotes the use of low-emission fuels in the shipping industry.
The agreement also aligns with LTEGL’s broader plans to expand its green hydrogen and derivatives business, positioning Kandla as a key export hub for low-carbon fuels. It supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and the country’s goal of becoming a major exporter of green energy products.
Through this collaboration, ammonia supplies from Kandla are anticipated to support ITOCHU’s bunkering activities in Singapore and other international locations, helping accelerate the adoption of green ammonia as a next-generation fuel for shipping.
