Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation and Iwatani Corporation have signed a partnership to jointly explore the potential of subcooled liquid hydrogen refueling technology for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.

The collaboration reflects growing momentum behind hydrogen as a clean energy solution for the transport sector, particularly for vehicles operating under heavy loads and over long distances. Subcooled liquid hydrogen offers several advantages over traditional gaseous hydrogen, including significantly higher energy density, extended vehicle range, faster refueling times, and improved overall efficiency.

The technology also promises to lower operational costs, potentially unlocking new commercial opportunities in zero-emission freight transport.

Under the agreement, the two companies will investigate the technical, regulatory, and commercial dimensions required to deploy subcooled hydrogen infrastructure in Japan. This includes efforts in technical development, regulatory compliance, business modeling for hydrogen filling stations, and joint marketing to promote hydrogen-fueled mobility.

With Iwatani’s expertise in hydrogen infrastructure and Mitsubishi’s commercial vehicle manufacturing, the partnership aims to accelerate the realization of next-generation hydrogen refueling solutions.
