On October 17, 2024, Ohmium International, a leader in green hydrogen technology that designs and manufactures advanced Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, announced a collaboration with SwitcH2 BV, a renewable energy joint venture that includes BW Offshore, a prominent offshore production solutions provider. Under this agreement, Ohmium will supply PEM electrolyzers for a groundbreaking 300MW offshore floating hydrogen and ammonia production project led by SwitcH2.

The project, located off the coast of Southern Europe, will establish an industrial-scale floating facility for green hydrogen and ammonia production, using proven Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) technologies. Ohmium's 300MW PEM electrolyzers will be installed on SwitcH2's 268-meter FPSO vessel, enabling an annual production capacity of up to 55,000 tons of green hydrogen and nearly 300,000 tons of green ammonia—enough to power several oceangoing vessels for an entire year.

Powered by nearshore solar and wind energy and using treated seawater, Ohmium's electrolyzers will generate green hydrogen, which will then be processed into ammonia on board. The ammonia will be offloaded onto carrier vessels for delivery to buyers. Supported by the Dutch government and approved in principle by the Norwegian certification agency DNV, the project aims to start green ammonia production by 2029.
