Sungrow Hydrogen has delivered 160 MW of alkaline water electrolysis equipment to ACME in Oman, where it will be installed at a renewable ammonia facility in Duqm on the southern coast. Around the same time, China-based Shuangliang Group also shipped 160 MW of similar units to ACME for the same project. The first phase of the Duqm development already has its full ammonia output contracted by Yara Clean Ammonia, with initial deliveries expected next year.
In addition, Sungrow Hydrogen will provide Kaishan Group with 16 of its 1,000 Nm³/h alkaline electrolyser units, along with associated power supply and balance-of-plant systems, for use in a geothermal ammonia project in Kenya.
For this project, Kenya’s utility KenGen will supply steam equivalent to 165.4 MW of geothermal energy from its existing wells to support the Kaishan Olkaria Geothermal Power Plant. Once fully developed—with an estimated investment of $800 million—the facility is expected to produce 200,000 tons of renewable ammonia annually, along with roughly 480,000 tons of nitrogen-based fertilisers, including urea and calcium ammonium nitrate.
